Not sure if group classes will work for you?
This is how lots of parents and students feel!
I get lots of enquiries where parents say "we don't want online" or "we don't want a group class"... Lots of people have not so fond memories of lockdown learning, seemingly endless Zoom or Teams calls and embarrassing breakout rooms!
I'm really proud of my group sessions! They are engaging, stress-free and always student focused. All of my students have small group tuition sessions, as well as 1:1 tuition for Year 10 and above. My students all make excellent progress, and this combination of tuition methods is a large part of the reason why!
I've put together a quick sneak peek video of what you can expect in my group sessions. This is not a highlights reel - these are snippets of one, random Year 11 session!
My online sessions are:
Engaging
My sessions all take place on an interactive, collaborative whiteboard called Pencil Spaces. It's absolutely not a lecture! Students complete lots of practice work on their own private board and get feedback and help just as they would in a 1:1 session.
Stress-Free
Students will never need to use their camera or microphone, but this doesn't mean that they won't need to focus! I can see them working in real time and provide help where needed. Students are always welcome to un-mute to ask a question, but most of the time they will type in the chat or write on their private board. I'll never use breakout rooms, enforce discussion or expect students to answer in front of the group. My sessions are designed to be comfortable for all students, even if they're shy or anxious.
Always Student Focused
Although these are group sessions, each student is treated as an individual and receives 1:1 feedback on their private boards as they work through the practice questions. All students can attend an introductory 1:1 goal setting session before joining a group so that I can be sure to fully support them throughout.

Yes, only for 1:1 tuition sessions. All in-person sessions take place in my garden classroom here in Calne. 1:1 sessions can also be online if preferred.
-
Absolutely not! I always work as hard as I can to help students improve as much as possible. Ultimately, grades come down to individual students’ effort and the exam on the day. I never make any outcome based promises.

All of my students have online group sessions as part of their tuition programme. I have had many shy, anxious and SEND students in my online groups in the past, and all have thrived and really enjoyed the sessions! If you have any specific worries, I’m always happy to talk through them.
