Useful Information

  • Clever Owl Maths uses the Wiltshire Council term dates. They can be found on the council website:

    Wiltshire Council Term Dates

Tuition sessions are term time only. For exam year students, holiday sessions may be arranged if there is mutual availability.

  • For the year 2025/6 there will be a GCSE Higher group running. This group is currently full.

  • Clever Owl Maths no longer offers traditional weekly 1:1 tuition unless there is a significant SEND or other need that would prevent the student from making progress on one of the Clever Owl Maths tuition programmes.

If you’re worried about enrolling in a group programme, please book a free discovery call and let me know your thoughts! My online group sessions are designed with shy or anxious students in mind and are highly suitable for almost everyone.

For students who do need 1:1 support, regular 1:1 sessions can only be offered where there is availability in the timetable. The fee for 1:1 sessions is £55 per session.

  • By commencing tuition with Clever Owl Maths you are agreeing to these Terms & Conditions.

    • Payment for all lessons must be received in advance. Invoices are due on 1st of every month where paid monthly. Clever Owl Maths may cancel lessons or end tuition if invoices are not paid on time.

    • Families must give one month’s notice if they wish to end tuition. Clever Owl Maths must also give one month’s notice if tuition is to end before a natural stopping point (e.g. exams).

    • If a lesson is cancelled by Clever Owl Maths for any reason, you will receive a credit on your next invoice if the lesson cannot be rearranged at a mutually convenient time.

    • For 1:1 lessons, if cancellation is made with at least 48 hours notice, then Clever Owl Maths will offer an alternative lesson day/time if possible, or an online lesson if appropriate. If no alternative arrangements can be made, then the lesson can be rolled over onto the following month. Cancellations will not be refunded as Clever Owl Maths will make every effort to offer alternative time slots.

    • Group session cancellations are not refundable for any reason, as due to the nature of group lessons they cannot be rescheduled. Recordings of lessons can be made available on request.

    • Clever Owl Maths uses the Wiltshire Council term dates, which are published on the Wiltshire Council website. Lessons run every week in term time.

    • Holiday lessons may available on request, if Clever Owl Maths has availability. You are not guaranteed your usual weekly lesson slot during holiday periods and it is likely that holiday sessions will be unavailable.

    • Students who are late to lessons will not be given any extra lesson time.

    • If students do not attend a 1:1 lesson, Clever Owl Maths will attempt to contact the family twice, by email/message. If there is no reply within 15 minutes, the lesson will be cancelled and remains chargeable.

    • Clever Owl Maths will no longer contact families via phone call, as Clever Owl Maths has previously incurred international call charges when doing so.

    • Clever Owl Maths will not attempt to contact families who have not arrived at a group lesson, as this would take time away from the students in attendance.

    • For face-to-face lessons, students must be collected on time. Students who are collected late may have late collection fees applied to their next invoice, charged at their usual hourly lesson rate.

    • For online sessions, sessions may be recorded and uploaded for access to students on courses only. Student videos will not be visible on recorded sessions. Recordings are only available if requested in advance of a session.

    • In the case of connection issues or other technological issues for online lessons, if it is too disruptive for the lesson to continue, Clever Owl Maths will end the lesson and rearrange at a mutually convenient time.

    • Students are expected to have good behaviour throughout tuition sessions and make good effort to participate. Poor behaviour or a severe lack of participation or effort will result in tuition being cancelled with immediate effect.

    • Where homework or extra work outside of lessons is provided, if it is not returned by the deadline then Clever Owl Maths is not obligated to provide marking and feedback.

    • Students must attend lessons in appropriate clothing and in an appropriate location.

    • Students should not be eating during lessons. Students may attend with a drink.

    • For online sessions, a responsible adult must be present in the house/location with the student for the duration of the lesson.

    • Clever Owl Maths will make every effort to improve progress and results of all students, however no guarantees are made and both progress and results are ultimately down to the efforts of individual students.

Meet the tutor

Hi!

I’m Gemma, the face behind Clever Owl Maths Tutoring. I live in Calne, Wiltshire with my husband and two children.

I am a qualified secondary maths teacher, GCSE examiner and tutor with over a decade of experience helping learners of a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds improve their maths skills.

Tuition is my passion, and I have had excellent results in helping students who really struggle with maths to improve their confidence and ability, as well as assisting high achieving students to reach or exceed their targets.

I have degrees in Electronic Engineering and Logistics Management, and I have qualified teacher status (QTS) and PGCE in Secondary Mathematics. I was also awarded a Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarship, recognising my potential to be an inspirational teacher. I am an ex-British Army officer and currently work as a teacher in an Alternative Provision.
